copy of one sheet - salveIf you pay much attention to wellness and natural remedy news, you’ve probably seen something called CBD Oil. It has recently spiked in popularity in states where marijuana is legal. CBD Oil is a carrier oil (like coconut or olive oil) with concentrations of extracted cannabidiol mixed in. A lot of the times you can find it with flavors added like vanilla or peppermint to make consumption more pleasant for users. Cannabidiol is a part of the marijuana plant that actually contains practically no THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) so you won’t receive a euphoric high like you would when smoking weed. It is one of over 100 chemical compounds found in marijuana. CBD Oil will not produce any signs of intoxication since it isn’t psychoactive like THC, which is very important to a lot of users. You can find CBD Oil online and it is legal in 30 states for the time being as they work to make it legal in all 50 states.

CBD Oil Benefits

One of the most widely talked about when it comes to CBD Oil are the number of ailments it can treat. CBD Oil benefits are far and wide from things like anxiety and depression to multiple sclerosis. Studies have shown it helping with pain as far back as 2900 B.C. Our body creates these neurotransmitters called endocannabinoids with actually bind to cannabinoid receptors in our nervous system. It’s been shown that after someone starts consuming CBD for pain, it actually impacts the endocannabinoid receptors. As for CBD Oil and mental health, the results are pretty impressive. A study was conducted with people who have a social anxiety disorder in which they had to publicly speak. One group, of course, was given a placebo and 24 individuals were given 600mg of CBD Oil. The group that had taken the oil showed greatly reduced cognitive impairment, anxiety and weren’t as uncomfortable about their speech performance than the people who took the placebo. As for CBD and depression, it has been proven that after taken, it raises the level of serotonin in the body. Serotonin is a neurotransmitter that helps us control our moods and behaviors.

Another cool benefit of CBD Oil is that it can be a positive treatment for high blood pressure.  They found in a group study of men that were healthy, that after taking the oil their blood pressure, while resting had reduced. They then gave the men a stress test and as you would expect, the people who took the placebo were a lot more stressed than those you took the CBD. When taken on an empty stomach CBD Oil can work in as little as 20 minutes. You can get the oil in pill form or tinctures. The tinctures you simply place the dropper under your tongue and hold the oil under there for a minute or so and go on about your day. Easy as that!

Another popular use for CBD Oil is to have a sounder nights sleep which is a goal for everyone to have and it’s been proven to help people with insomnia fall asleep faster and easier. The oil has also been reported to help seizures in those who have epilepsy. As for epilepsy, it’s also shown significant improvement with those who have treatment-resistant epilepsy. In 2015 there was a law the passed allowing medical studies in Alabama for the use of cannabidiol, widely known as Carly’s Law. The University of Alabama conducted a study in which they discovered the above along with less frequency in seizures and the severity was dramatically reduced. They had 132 patients for this survey, 60 adults and 72 children who had intractable epilepsy in which standard treatment options didn’t work. They had patients tested at 3 months, 6 months and lastly at 11 months and tracked their baseline. The mean between all 132 patients at the beginning of the study was 144 seizures within 2 weeks. With the help of CBD Oil, just 3 months later it had reduced drastically to a mean of 52 seizures with a 2 week time frame and this remained stable throughout the rest of the trial.

Another thing about CBD Oil that isn’t as known, it can actually be incredibly beneficial to dogs as well. They are safe as they are non-toxic and can help with similar ailments found in humans. It’s even been found to be life-saving for some of our furry friends. In states where it’s legal, you can find many forms of CBD for our pets at dispensaries or even stand alone, brick and mortar stores specifically for CBD. Like you’ll read later in this article, it is advised to talk with your pet’s vet before turning to CBD Oil as it can interact with other medications your pet may already be taking.

CBD Oil Side Effects

CBD Oil is a generally safe and natural alternative to a lot of different medicines and supplements. One thing that is important to note is the CBD does have a history of interacting with other medications, so for your own safety, it is suggested to talk to your doctor about the potential interactions it could have with anything else you are already taking. One of the main drugs it can interact with negatively are epileptic drugs and more specifically, children’s epileptic medication. Of course, some people may experience side effects after taking CBD. Some side effects are based on the method you take it. You may get cottonmouth if smoking a CBD joint but you wouldn’t get that when taking it in oil form. Some of the side effects seen with CBD Oil specifically are diarrhea, change in appetite, dizziness, vomiting, change in mood and fatigue. There has also been concern that it could potentially increase enzymes in the liver, in turn, attributing to liver inflammation and liver damage. It is also suggested if you are pregnant or nursing to not be taking CBD due to the fact that it can have slight traces of THC.
